Description

A disconsolate Josie Milton gazes down at her new home: the planet Mars. She has been assigned to be the colony's new Deputy Governor. It represents rapid promotion for her, but the Galactic Administration was hardly fighting off candidates. Mars long since stopped being a penal colony, but there is a strong sense about the place that Earth placed a colony there because it was possible, rather than because it made any sense to do so. It has never been terraformed, because it is too far from the Sun for that to be worthwhile. The colony is entirely subterranean; you only venture on the surface if you have an armour-plated spacesuit handy. The worst thing for Josie Milton is that she is now the prime candidate to be the next Governor.
