Description

"Summer afternoon. Summer afternoon. ... the two most beautiful words in the English language." ~ Henry James

"How did it get so late so soon? Its night before its afternoon. December is here before its June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?" ~ Theodor Geisel

"What is it about a beautiful sunny afternoon, with the birds singing and the wind rustling through the leaves, that makes you want to get drunk?" ~ Jack Handy

For anyone not familiar with Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey, I highly recommend visiting the link and reading a few. Words of humor, words of wisdom. ;'] I hope everyone had a terrific hump day! ----- Thank you for your botanical comments on my last upload, Fan Palm.

Shades of the Victorian era! How bucolic! Beautiful light and shade effects in this capture, my friend. With all due respect to Henry James, my favorite three words are "early Sunday morning," when I can get up early, go food shopping without a mass of customers in the markets, no kids wildly playing hide-and-go-seek in the aisles, plenty of fresh produce, and virtually no auto traffic to contend with.

spell (v.1) "name the letters of," O.E. spellian "to tell, speak," infl. by O.Fr. espeller "declare, spell," from Frank. spellon "to tell;" both O.E. and Frank. from P.Gmc. spellan (cf. O.H.G. spellon "to tell," O.N. spjalla, Goth. spillon "to talk, tell"), from PIE spel- "to say aloud, recite." Meaning "write or say the letters of a word" is c.1400, from notion of "read letter by letter, read with difficulty" (c.1300). Spell out "explain step-by-step" is first recorded 1940, Amer.Eng. Spelling bee is from 1878 (earlier simply spelling, 1860). spell (n.) "incantation, charm," O.E. spell "story, speech," from P.Gmc. spellan (cf. O.N. spjall, O.H.G. spel, Goth. spill "report, discourse, tale;" Ger. Beispiel "example;" see spell (v.1)). Meaning "set of words with magical powers, incantation, charm" first recorded 1579. Spellbound is attested from 1799, from bound "fastened." "The term 'spell' is generally used for magical procedures which cause harm, or force people to do something against their will -- unlike charms for healing, protection, etc." ["Oxford Dictionary of English Folklore"] spell (v.2) "work in place of (another)," O.E. spelian "to take the place of," related to gespelia "substitute," of uncertain origin. Perhaps related to spilian "to play" (see spiel). The noun meaning "indefinite period of time" first recorded 1706. Online Etymolgical Dictionary [http://etymonline.com/?term=spell]

Sorry I missed this one yesterday.Like you,I've been feeling the need to slow down and savor it all before it all just blows by.You are right. The older you get,the faster time seems to fly.Remember when we were kids and a month felt like a year and heck,a year was like an eternity? Well,I figured out three things that make time slow down.Do you want to know what they are?Well,I'm going to tell you anyway,lol....One,is pain. The seconds craaaaaaawl when you are in pain.Okay.Not attractive.Let's move on....Two,boredom.If you want your life to slow down drastically,go stand on line at Motor Vehicles. Then you'll pray time picks up it's pace,lol.Okay.Also not attractive... Third...quiet time spent on your porch on a late summer afternoon...and I'm going to make sure I do just that this weekend. Beautiful upload,my friend.Sorry for rambling all over it.Hope you have a long, slow,(but painless and non-boring,lol) weekend.-M :^)
