Description

Hello all! Ran into this darling and very cheeky white Shetland pony on vacation in Michagan. I tried to get up close to do a macro shot of her as I did she showed me some attitude !! lol !! She was very spunky and nudged me and my cam a few times - lol no lie infact, when I bent over oppisite direction and attempted to pick up my bag she gave me a quick push on the rear - LOL got me from behind with her nuzzle !!... I did alot of post work to bring it out in humor today and also did some of my smudging , ... was going for a funny wide angel look here ! Most all of you I am sure know abou this breed horse , but here is a little info and history on it today I personally found interesting to read up on !.. The Shetland Pony ______________________________________ The Shetland Pony originated from the Shetland Islands - North East of Scotland. The ancient ponies' roots are unknown, though it is believed that they are related to the ancient Scandinavian ponies from when the islands were joined with Scandinavia (up until 8000 BC). They were probably influenced by the Celtic Pony, taken by the Celts between 2000 and 1000 BC. The harsh climate and scarce food developed the ponies into extremely hardy animals. They were first used for carrying peat and ploughing. Then, in the mid-19th century, when laws were passed prohibiting children from working in coal mines, thousands of Shetlands travelled to Mainland Britain to be 'pit ponies,' working underground their whole lives hauling coal. The United States mid-west coal mines also imported some of these animals. Today, Shetlands are used as children's ponies and are also featured in the Shetland Pony Grand National, galloping around the course with their young jockeys. Shetland Ponies are hardy and strong due to the fact that the breed evolved in the harsh conditions of the Shetland Islands. Even possibly the strongest breed relative to their size, and one of the toughest breeds of pony in the world. They are also especially long-lived. Shetlands can be almost every color In appearance, dished face, wide spaced eyes and small, alert ears. The original breed has a short, muscular neck, compact, stocky bodies, and short, strong legs and a shorter than normal cannon bone in relation to their size. In America, a more refined Shetland Pony has been bred over the past 150 years. American Shetland Ponies often have long thin "hooky" neck, a more refined body, and longer legs. A short broad back and deep girth are universal characteristics as are a springy stride. Shetlands have long thick manes and tails and a dense double winter coat to withstand harsh weather. Shetland Ponies are generally gentle, good-tempered (though they can be snappy), and very intelligent by nature. Due in part to their intelligence and size, they are easily spoiled and can be very headstrong if not well-trained, and can make good children's ponies, but can be very cheeky. _____________________________________________ *Please view at full size for best effect thank you!! Thanks for your time and comments! Love to you all!! ((( BIG HUGS !! ))) ~Kimmers :O) !!! ♥

It sure looks to me like a cheeky little thing. Cute little horses they are. I wish someone had one of these when i grew up so that i didnt have to ride the cows when my friends rode horses. It wouldnt have hurt one bit to fall of one of these miniature horses. I love the smudging and the presentation of this beautiful shot. Although the focus could have been more on its eye perhaps. Nothing you cant fix with a little postwork. #;o) Have a wonderful day!!! #:o)

Which beautiful invitation with the dream that this splendid pony with the mane white and the dappled dress. I suppose that it was so glad to be shown, that if Kimarie does not pay attention, it is likely to leave the framework, he already passed the head inside at home. Much tenderness in this photograph. I do not speak about the photographic control. The evidence is made. Beautiful subjects that horses!

Excellent shot of this Pony. Outside of ElPaso Tx, there is a ranch where the Raise and Breed Shetlands. They put on a Show in the Summer there, it was one of my Daughters favorite places to visit on a days outing. There is nothing like the sight of a bunch of Shetlands made up like Clydsdales and pulling a minature Budweiser Beer Wagon. & Peace
