I am sorry to hear of your renal failure that has got to be tough. I hope you are on the short list for a transplant and wish you all the luck in the world. I applaud you for documenting your experience and congratulate you on the unique perspective you decided to take. It's a nice touch. Our pets may not know exactly what's going on, but they do seem to have a sixth sense and know when trouble's afoot. I'm glad you find solace in their company. I like the song a lot, though I must say the last word sort of falls flat for me. Of course I cannot hear the music that goes with it, so perhaps it's fine as is. I think go might flow just a bit better than walk, and sort of ties in with the chorus. But then, I'm not a song writer. I liked both the prefaces OK, but must say that I find it hard to know who's talking when in the dog's section. I think you will need to develop some mechanism to make that plain, although Sam said, and Bambi said probably would not sound right for dogs either. Also, the Woofs get to be a little distracting. I hesitate to even make these suggestions, as this is such a deeply personal story. It seems insensitive for me to be nitpicking.
