MONSTERS~~~!!!!! Eeeeeks!!!! ~...~~WARNING ... Proceed with Caution~~... ~ Yes...with all of that warm, summer rain...came all types of creepy crawlies. The only thing I don't like about summer. :-/ This creature is known as a house centipede and he measured about 6 inches long (in my mind)...he was actually close to 2 inches with those long legs and antennae coming from both ends. I found him just sitting on a wall in my basement...pretty scarey place down there. Last year I found that other monster bug that I posted... can't remember what he was called at the moment. I looked this guy up on www.whatsthatbug.com and found out that house centipedes are basically harmless, commonly found in homes and actually do some good by eagerly dispatching other household intruders by devouring them. They kill and eat flys, roaches, spiders, crickets and other invertibrates. They are still terrifying to me and I had him promptly removed from the premises while I waited in a room as far from him as possible...AFTER I took his picture of course...hehehe Hope he doesn't give anyone nightmares...;-) Have a wonderful Monday everyone, (((Hugs))) ~*~maggie~*~

It's another terrorist plot to invade the US with innocent centipedes that will grow 100 times its original size and start devouring Americans. Don't worry. Our wonderful leader King George will send in the army to crush these invaders. You might not have a home when he's finished however... Great pics Mags. It is very creepy. He's even too scary for the Rayburgimal zoo..Take care my daughter.

when I was a kid there were plenty of them. move a stone or log and they would scurry. I was told they were not harmless so I always stayed clear and killed them inside the house.excellent macro Maggie-so clear and focused

There appears to be feelers on both ends but the top section looks like it has eyes and mantables or however they're spelled. The coloring reminds me of the brown crickets I hate so much. I think I'm officially ready for Halloween now lol. Good detail shot :-)

I live in a brick house which is well over 100 years old, so theses guys are not uncommon. However the LBC (Little Black Cat) loves hunting them and eating them. That and sleeping on my lower back back are her jobs around the house. LBC is proud of how you stalked and captured this one! Superb macro!
