Waiting For You
The hurt,
It still lingers
And the mystery,
Remains.
How can God
In all His mercy,
Leave me,
With so much pain?
Many months
Now have passed,
Since you left
That fateful day.
Nothing unusual,
A hug
And
A kiss,
And you were on
Your merry way.
I remember the time
So very well,
As you drove off
Down the street.
Typical of you to be early,
So you'd be relaxed,
Before clients you had meet.
I busied myself,
Getting kids to school,
Housework,
And daily chores.
Remember watching TV
And noticing,
The tie the announcer wore.
Made a mental note
To get you one,
For your Birthday,
I knew you'd like that.
Dark blue,
With Mickey and Goofy.
Goofy wearing,
His top hat.
You always were
A big kid at heart,
And I loved
Your childish ways.
Always smiling,
Wanting a hug,
God! How I wish
You were here today!
I still remember, quite vividly
The ringing of the 'phone.
Why were you ringing
Had you broken down?
Were you on your way home?
Your first words
Were, I love you,
Take care of the kids
For me.
I don't think
I'll be home tonight,
Smokes so thick
I cannot see.
Fate took a hand,
And destiny struck
As our time as a family,
Run out.
You were not to know,
As you sat at your desk
That your name
On God's list,
Had not been
Crossed out.
And still today no news
Of what became of you.
And it's your birthday.
I have the Mickey tie,
Wrapped, waiting for you.
That is how it'll stay,
For now, and forever more.
Waiting for you to unwrap it
When you walk back through the door.

This is so heartfelt and beautifully done that it brings tears to my eyes. I dont know what to say except that the way you walk us through the experience is so powerful and the ending so incredibly touching. Excellent poem to remind of us of the pain caused in so many people's lives that day. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent personal pov of that event, with a love, kept alive, embodied in an everyday token.

I can only say how touched I am when there is someone like yourself from another side of the world that extends their heart my side of the world. Thank you Sammy, for remembering, for honoring, for caring. ~Michelle~
