Description

They suffered from the same problem, limited mobility. Anzio Annie could only travel on rails and needed a large support crew. Atomic Annie was a Cold War weapon designed to deliver tactical nuke shells to eliminate ground troops but it was a lumbering lummox easily tracked by the Russians not to mention that the area nuked could not be occupied.

Super view of these big gun sisters. Have you seen the 14 inch railway gun at the Washington Navy Yard?

I had a plastic model of the atomic cannon in the 50's. It was about 6 feet long. My grand father let me pick it out from a wholesale toy warehouse he bought from. In 1983 I was at the Aberdeen Ordnance museum where they had an exhibit proclaiming the RPG-7 and RPG-9 to be defeated utterly by the latest (M-1 Abrams) armor. Now that Eugene Stoner is in the Hall of Fame I thought I might catch some slack but the dopers messed it up at their raves.

? Belated comment, I know, but just found your gallery through another comment...(cats...lol) Atomic Annie had been a part of the Ft.Sill Oklahoma on base museum (I grew up there and used to play on howitzers and stuff...lol). We took a family vacation back there in July 2005, I have several pics of my son next to Annie. Looks like you caught it in a traveling exhibition?
