Description

Ultrafractal 3.02 I thought I'd show y'all this original version of my "Fuji-san" piece. I worked for a long time on it and, at the end, opted to re-do the backdrop (like this - http://excalibur.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1148480 ) but the longer I looked at this one - painted on a crinkled piece of rice paper - I got to thinking maybe it's worth showing to someone anyhow? I re-rendered the bamboo with shading changes that happened on the "finished version" at the link above but - doh! - I just noticed that the clouds stop at the bamboo. Aaargh - fractal, ALWAYS something! lol I'll go into the finished file and snag the "improved' clouds and put them in. Sigh...you're never "done", ya know? Had trouble figuring out a different name. I went to Babelfish for a translation but it gave me kanji - ratz! - so maybe not such a creative title.... Thanks for stopping by for a peek at this, sorta, "pre-run". Just terrific Rick. I remember that in the comments for the other version some folks thought it wasn't "fractal" enough. Pish. It's wonderful art. Gives the rest of us something to strive for.

I like this background better, must be because I love fabric and paper textures. Your craftsmanship is amazing, as always. A very fine work of art.

Strange, the first was airy and open and pervaded by softness. This one is moody and somehow feels compessed, but I like the way the foreground foliage stands out. In this one, though, the bamboos are too hard-edged and particularly the tops. This feeling is accentuated by the crinkle of the background which builds on the hard-edged illusion. Wish I could do either.

Rick - I have a real leaning toward creating something with UF rather than just the random pretty 'chaos' that can be found so easily. This is a perfect and beautiful example of the artist using his tools to create rather than the other approach. If I can learn to make work like this I will be very proud.
