Description

A tiny spider which I found a few weeks back. As is often the case with spiders, it has no common name - so the only name I can offer you is latin - Lepthyphantes expunctus. An adult specimen is 1.8 - 2.5mm long, and is often found on the lower branches of pines and amongst adjacent vegetation. To give you a better idea of how tiny this guy really is: the bristly stuff she is hanging from are the hairs on the back of my hand (and no, I'm not closely related to any orangutans...:) (and in case you're wondering, I'm not really pink either - but I changed the background color since it all looked a tad to "fleshy" straight from the camera). It was a bit of a balancing act to hold my left hand up in front of me while at the same time balancing my camera on one of my knees - desperately trying to get a clean sharp image... Shot with a Canon MP-E 65mm at about 3x magnification. A full size view is HIGLY recommended.

Excellent shot under difficult circumstances! She resembles the brown or red widows of larger size and reputation!

It's that small?Wow.You certainly did a great job with this.LOL at you not being an orangutan. What I find most amazing is that you let her crawl on you while you took the shot.I would've flicked her off in a heartbeat, lol.Wonderful work,Erik.-M :^)
