Description

I found the most interesting aspect of this moth to be its antenna arrangement. In my younger days I greatly enjoyed building WWII model aircraft. The early night fighter aircraft had similar arrangements of antenna sticking out the nose of the craft. There purpose was to receive the reflected radar beams of enemy aircraft. In the case of the moth their antenna design is for detecting microscopic bits of pheromones for mating. http://www.si.edu/resource/faq/nmnh/buginfo/pheromones.htm http://www.nysaes.cornell.edu/pheronet/pherom.html www.century-of-flight.freeola.com/Aviation%20...

It reminds me of the Messerschmitt Me 110 Zerster or "destroyer. That plane looked like it had a house antenna on the front of it! (For you kiddies, that's what we used before cable and satellite T.V.!) Cool shot as always Me 110 link scroll down

This shot has a sense of flying not seen in other butty and moth shots. Well done with focus on the antennae.

Great and intersting shot ... this moth looks huge! Could very well be an aircraft in disguise:-) Thanks for the info it's always nice to learn.
