My second modelling/rendering attempt with LW (8.0). Wish I had more time to devote to this! Thanks for looking; any helpfull comments are very welcome. (1024 x 768, btw).

Yeah, yours is more precise with the wood textures. Although I think it would distinguish more was there more light. Also on the mechanical side: it wouldn't work like this. The balls must be tied to two points, otherwise they wouldn't swing in one line, but in any direction. Apart from that I like it very much.

Thanks Ig: good point Re: two points per ball. Thought of that when I was viewing yours. As for the lighting, I like the effect as is.

Very well done. You should play a bit with the reflections on the floor, making them a bit more glossy while fading to distance. It will add a touch of realism. I personally like a lot the lighting, subdued and soft.

Good point, and I agree, fading the ref will add to the realism. Hmm...a gradient maybe ?

Another Newton's Cradle! Thanks for your comment on my "Missing Link" post. Nice modelling - as your other commenter noted, a single string would not guarantee the balls would swing in a single diretion, but who's to say you want them to do that! :) From this camera angle, it looks like the balls are actually overlapping a little bit. Maybe worth checking a side view. Could you make the floor reflections a little blurred, or add a very slight wood grain bump to the floor? I found that breaking up a perfect reflection adds a great deal of realism since few surfaces are perfectly flat in nature, even polished laminate floors have joints and cracks and so on. Depends what kind of look you're after.

Thanks crafty, I appreciate your comments, particularly those regarding adding more realism (my goal in this). Even though the wood above does not look 'real', I must admit I like the way it turned out :)
