Description
The Pony Express ran from St Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California, almost 2,000 miles. It started 4/3/1860 and ended 10/24/1861. 183 men are known to have ridden for the Pony Express during this time at a pay of $100/month. Johnny Fry was the first westbound rider and Billy Hamilton was the first Eastbound rider. They ran 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. Riders got a fresh horse every 10-15 miles and a new rider took over every 75-100 miles. Surprisingly enough, only one rider is known to have been killed. The horses traveled an average of 10 miles per hour. There were approx 165 stations. The cost for 1/2 ounce mail was $5 at the beginning and, by the end, had dropped to $1 per 1/2 ounce.
"The guys", of course, contributed their part in getting the US mail across the country.
Thanks in advance for all your comments and smiles!!! Have a wonderful week and see you next Tuesday!!

Yeah - those vultures. Frightening. But i am sure hero mouse will make it save. And bring this letter to you Wendy. A fantastic image, cuter than cute.

That little guy must be really tired after riding 100 miles!! But $100/month buys a lot of cheese. ;-) Excellent image!
