path of thorns by NothingNess

Care demands consideration Come, sit Consider from bud to bloom the breath of a rose is finite no matter how beautiful it does not live forever does it matter whether it sees it
After a while you learn
the subtle difference between
holding a hand and chaining a soul
and you learn
that love doesn't mean leaning
and company doesn't always mean security
and you begin to learn
that kisses aren't contracts
and presents aren't promises
and you begin to accept your defeats
with your head up and your eyes ahead
with the grace of woman, not the grief of a child
and you learn
to build all your roads on today
because tomorrow's ground is
too uncertain for plans
and futures have a way of falling down
in mid-flight
after a while you learn
that even sunshine burns
if you get too much
so you plant your own garden
and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone
to bring you flowers
and you learn that you really can endure
you really are strong
you really do have worth
and you learn
and you learn
with every goodbye, you learn...

I love the imagery you've used here ... it's a familiar theme but your new 'spin' has injected new life into the idea. btw. possible typo on the last line of the stanza two 'torn' ... should it be thorn? A favourite, for sure! Mike

Beautiful words, lovely image. Once it's gone the beauty of the rose remains in the hearts and memories of those who loved it and those who were affected by it's beauty. So for those who braved its' thorns the rose is immortal. Thanks for a thought provoking piece. BJ

"And in the spring, becomes the rose" (Bette Midler). The thorns protect the beautiful roses. Nature always shows us it can be 'tough' and 'soft' at the same time. A good life lesson for us 'humans', methinks? SMILE. This work is ''Something Else'', NothingNess! Excellent!!
