Description

"Very often people looking at my pictures say, 'You must have had to wait a long time to get that cloud just right (or that shadow, or the light).' As a matter of fact, I almost never wait, that is, unless I can see that the thing will be right in a few minutes. But if I must wait an hour for the shadow to move, or the light to change, or the cow to graze in the other direction, then I put up my camera and go on, knowing that I am likely to find three subjects just as good in the same hour." ~ Edward Weston

In the photography magazines I read how some professional photographers will wait hours, or even months, for the light and moment to be just right to capture a specific photo. How I envy their patience and the time they have to do this. Being short on time all of the time, I'm with old Edward. If the image isn't perfect right then, I usually move on and find something else. ----- Thank you for surfing in to comment on my last upload, On The Crest Of A Wave.

spectacular b/w here and the shadows are really great. I can just about picture where the sun was at that moment just by observing the shot. Very good!

I heard an interview on NPR with one of (The?) assistant to Ansel Adams. He said that Adams tried for YEARS, to get a particular shot of (Particular) snow in a particular place. Every year he would pack up his equipment (At a particular time) and trek out to the same spot. Year after year went by with no success. Then one day he got the shot, and never returned to that spot. I am with you Kort, I have no such patience....excellent shot, love the long sensuous shadows!!

Im with old Edward too. I suppose it helps if you live close-by to that particular landscape or whatever and you can just go home, have a drink while waiting for the sun to set. But i could never wait longer than 5 minutes even before i start to get shutter-happy, lol. Beautiful shadowplay my man! The sun must have been set rather low to cast such loooong shadows. Have a wonderful day! #:o)

Oh yeah..... I have to agree too!!! It might be different if I were getting paid for the image in advance, but I think it's the fine eye that can capture the moment!!! Like this one!!! Well done!!!!

They wait with breathless expectation, until waterfront walkers, breathless, sit. In that moment comes the realization. I'm surrounded by beauty, what have I missed? They sit and gaze in wonder. I love that the chairs face every direction, as if each person who sat found something different beautiful. Or perhaps, each chair has a personal favorite it wishes to share. Thanks for sharing. BJ

A wonderful b+w study, I really, really like this! I'm with you on the quote too, if I have to wait more than a few minutes for a shot I tend to go looking for something else.

Nice post Kort!! And you did chose a fitting title.. I agree too about the shadow and people waiting for the right moment :) In fact i am one of those and have a very long shadowness series i might share some later! No here you again chose the right tones/colours.. The silver sepia worked real good now :) And your shadow came out just perfect! Thank you my fiend for the share/your support/comments and will see you around JOE

I agree with Edward and Andreas, if you live in a very nice place where you can to have all the things, it's possible... I not considering me like a profesional, i see me like a studient and i hope it's for all my life ;) Your photo is very beautiful and your choice in b&w is perfectly, excellent!!!

Nice avatar...what happened to the old one? Spectacular capture of the terrace and the super shadows! It looks like a late morning or afternoon shot. I don't have the patience or the time to hang around for the perfect moment to take a photo like that.

Fantastic how occupied the space seems to be, with the various lines running criss cross whiel the biggest part is open space.
