Ha, life is not all about fun and games we associate with the weekend we had in South Africa for the Renderosity members. The area is rich in historical sites and memorials are generally well kept and preserved. My next two captures will pay homage to big historical events locally. I hope I do justice to the memory of people honoured, while wishing our next generations will not make the same mistakes.

"When the trekkers entered Natal in Nov 1837 a large number of family groups camped in the valley. Only a few laagers were formed. During the night of 16/17 Feb 1838 Zulu impis which had left Dingane's kraal shortly after the murder of  Retief attacked these groups killing 41 men, 56 women, 185 children and about 200 retainers besides destroying wagons and encampments and driving cattle away." Quote from the National Monuments Council

So interesting. We seldom hear the real history behind other countries affairs or early problems. Tragedies of this type are world wide not only in history, but still happening today. How we need the Kingdom that everyone has been praying for in the "Lord's Prayer." Thank you! HUGS!!!!

Such a moving image, Oom Piet. The lone tree to the side of the monument speaks eons. I know how important it was for you to visit the memorial sites, to pay homage... I am glad you were able to go to these beautiful yet solemn sites. It is good to remember........ Hugs. Di.

Beautiful homage. If only we would learn from history. You did justice to this adding the tree representing life.

Beautiful capture and fine reportage of a bit of South African history. I've watched the movie, ZULU, about fifteen times already, which may or may not mean anything in this case. Such a pristine ambience to the photo, everything so sharp and clear. Excellent compositional balance between the tree and vertical monument (stele).

super shot and the Zulu wars was bad. I did not know of this part but did watch the movie and I did read some true storys of the war. So sad on both sides. Plus I hear of bad blood still there. I do not know

As Kwazulu spread south, the Boers trekked north and when two groups want the same land, they will fight for it. The settlement of North America is much the same story. Excellent shot and a wonderful history lesson, Piet!
