Description
Amazons?! Why is this happening to me? by Clio Aristocratos
Clio felt relief as Elgon came to get her in her holding cell and told her of his plans for her safety. The Aristophanes palace would be a huge change and much more comfortable--although it would be overwhelming. Clio had only seen the palace from a distance. Why the front entryway must be bigger than her whole home!
Feeling anonymous with the cloak around her, she walked with the magistrate through the streets and lanes of Athens. The closer they got to Daedalai the more secure she felt, though she sensed that something was keeping Elgon on edge. Perhaps he was being overly cautious. No one seemed to be around. Even the criminals of Athens were in their beds.
Suddenly Elgon shoved her into a dark corner and whirled with his staff at a figure that just appeared out of nowhere. Clio placed one hand on the knife at her waist and the other over her mouth to prevent herself from making a noise.
She watched as other attackers joined the fight. Elgon was using every trick he knew, and his sword was slicing through the air. He was outnumbered. How could he possibly take on all four attackers?
There were more footsteps and like a miracle help appeared. The Aristophanes men, Skip and Joey along with Max and Xeo and a 5th man Clio thought might be the mysterious Kritias jumped in to the fight and within moments the attackers had fled.
The last attacker seemed to whisper something to Elgon that no one else could hear in the commotion.
Clio rubbed her eyes. The whole scene was unreal. It was more like a scene from one of Joey's plays than something happening to her.
She stayed where she was and watched as the men did their usual backslapping congratulations that seemed to come after fights until Elgon came over to her blocking her view of the Aristophanes clan.
"Who were those people?" she had to know if what she thought she saw was really true. The attackers had appeared to be women.
Elgon's response sent terror through her heart. "Those...my dear Kyria... were Amazons."
Clio gasped. "Amazons! Why is this happening to me? "
As she said those words the streetscape around her began to shimmer. Was she having a panic attack? Was this a breakdown? What was that strange fog that was curling in tendrils around her space of safety.
Kyria Clio Aristocratos said a deep and mysterious voice you are about to find out why.
