Niiiiiice! Remember seeing the first redstone flop. When did Atlas boosters become the rocket of choice? I thought Mercury was an Atlas project...never checked. Great POV and motion effects. One critique: Where's all the smoke?

Thanx for the comment! Ham the chimp was the first "Astronaut" to ride the Redstone. Alan Sheppard and Gus Grissom were next but they didn't orbit the Earth. They just went up and came back down. The Mercury capsule was then fitted onto the Atlas for the extra power needed to get John Glenn into Earth orbit. These rockets were originally designed for ballistic missles. When you think of it in that perspective, it's pretty amazing to think of someone riding them. As far as the smoke... There was almost no smoke from the Redstone in any of the images I've seen so I left it out. The Atlas has a lot of smoke on liftoff until it gets a few miles up. It's an awsome sight to watch, I can see all the rockets launch from my window.

Excellent model of a sometimes forgotten part of the space program. Brings back some boyhood memories. Super scene!

Nicely done. As for the smoke... there was very little from the Redstone and most of the smoke seen on lift off isn't smoke at all but steam as the boosters hit the troughs of water under the launch pad.
