Description

On 18 December, 1944 the Pacific 3rd Fleet was caught in a Typhoon in the Philipine Sea. The Destroyer Escort USS Levy was hit on the port side by a rogue wave and took a 46 degree list. About to capsize, another rogue wave hit her from the starboard side and righted her. Many other ships and crew were not so lucky. Source - Seaman John E. McCullough Ret. My Father, this was his ship. Bryce 5, Rhino 3d, Photoshop CS and a lot of research. Special thanx to Andy Simmons and his water tips.

Great waves. Nice modelling as well. I was in the Navy for 20 years and the detail you have in this ship looks great.

Thanx Steeleyes, I painted the sky and waves in photoshop in post rendering. I used terrains as water for the "Age of Steam" image and it came out ok but I wanted something much more dramatic for this scene. I have to say that I emailed "hobbit" and asked for pointers after seeing some of his ocean work. My waves are a poor imitation of his work which you must see. As far as the ship... It was my secong ship model and my first war ship. It took me about 80 hours or so including the skinning and the detailed armaments which aren't that visible in this image.
