Description

Back In Athens
In Charge! by Anias       A12147.gif Anias awoke and released all the pent up gas inside of him before he struggled out of bed. He stood up, stretched making all those stretching noises and then scratched all those good places. It was time to go to work. He found a bucket of not too dirty water and stuck his head in for his morning ablutions. Using a small piece of bronze, he looked at the scars on his face from those demons that had attacked him last night. He checked his chiton; would it do for another day or would he have to dunk it in the bucket and get out his other chiton? Nah, it would do for another day or two or three. Perhaps he would change this evening and go and visit the Doctor on "official business." What a cutie! Scratching himself again, he headed towards the door and went in search of some food before going to headquarters. The position of the sun told him that he had overslept so as he made his way to work he began to work on what he would say to Elgon. The man was so unreasonable about being on time for work. Didn't he realize that creative investigation couldn't be forced to keep mundane work-a-day hours? Shoving the last of his bread and cheese into his mouth, Anias almost sprinted to the building. "Has Elgon been looking for me--or shouting even?" he asked with a half full mouth to the officer at the desk. "Elgon hasn't been looking for anyone this morning" was the response. "Then I will just go and check in at his office and give him my reports" Anias pointed to the scrolls stuffed into his belt. "Anias, Elgon isn't here" "Not here? Amazing! I thought the man lived here. I will go get some more to eat and just wait for him to arrive." Anias turned to leave when the officer said."We don't know where Elgon is. He left last night with the weaver, Kyria Aristocratos, and neither one has been seen since." "WHAT??" Anias squealed. "That Murderer and the Magistrate are both missing? Are you looking for his body" Anias shuddered "There was another of those wild women outside this building last night with demons with her. See the scratches on my face. I had a narrow escape. Maybe Elgon didn't escape." Shoving down his rising panic "I will take over this case everyone. I am in charge. I will save Athens from these wild women who are ripping men apart." Anias shouted out. "We must rid our fair city of these murdering women! Women should be locked up for their own safety!" Anias looked around the atrium he was standing in and realized that the only people paying attention to him were snickering. He would show them. Athens was in danger. After all, wasn't the vanishing of the magistrate proof of that!
