Description

Despite the title, this image has nothing to do with the Kubrick film from some years ago. Instead, I've used it as an inspiration to combine organic and inorganic elements in an unusual way. Although it's hard to tell from this image, the clockwork mechanism itself has over 10 gears and related components, from the winding mechanism in the stem to the "digital" display. I've tried to give it a late Victorian look in the textures, like a strange tarnished timepiece. The knife itself is deliberately reminiscent of the one in the "A Clockwork Orange" movie posters, as an homage to the original. Everything here has been modelled from scratch, with most of the materials being procedural textures of one sort or another. The image is straight out of Cinema 4D, with some minor color corrections in Photoshop. Enjoy!

Fantastic modeling, lighting & composition. This is really great work & displays a mastery of modeling that is light years beyond my own abilities, so I hope you won't mind a very minor criticism. There are two aspects of the mechanistic half of the orange that I find a little unconvincing. One is that it doesn't look like an entire half - it appears that the top has been sliced off & flattened. The second is that other than that little bit of juice at the bottom of it, it doesn't really look like part of an orange at all. If the edge along the circumference was made to look like the inside of an orange instead of being metallic, I think it would have been more effective.
