just bokeh by TwoPynts

"One photo out of focus is a mistake, ten photo out of focus are an experimentation, one hundred photo out of focus are a style." ~ Anon
This is the photo that yesterday's layered light image was taken from. It is just bokeh
. I was experimenting with 'my' new FZ50 and was trying to get a macro shot of some broken glass I found at a gas (petrol) station. I had not yet read the manual and for the life of me could not get the camera to focus in on the shards of twinkling glass. The sharpest of them you can see vaguely in my thumbnail and that was still quite out of focus. This shot was the most out of focus. For some reason I saved them image. It was a happy accident, I really like the abstract bokeh created by this poorly focused photo. You will notice the hexagonal shape of the bokeh -- this means the FZ50 has 6 six blades. Not the cheapest, but not very good. The better bokeh are achieved with more expensive 7 or 9 bladed lenses. You also will note that the bokeh have a sharply defined edge and some strange wavy patterns inside (sensor related?). This technically makes for 'bad' bokeh, but it works here as an abstract. To create yesterday's image, I selected and copied this photo, doubled the size of the canvas to the right side and to the bottom while keeping the original in the top left. I then pasted and mirrored it to either side and then a final double flip for the bottom right. I then flattened the image and copied it and repeated the process again, and again, and again. I ended up with a rather large patterned image which I then rotated 90 degrees clockwise and cropped so that borders did not end at the exact same spot -- so it did not look quite so uniform. I then played around with feathered selections, adjusting curves and levels and hug and saturation and even some inversion...to get the final image. So those of you that guessed 'out of focus' and 'glass' were on the right track. Sorry, no, it was not a beaded curtain! ;'] ---------- Panasonic DMC-FZ50 & PhotoshopCS.
