I've been mulling over the idea whether to upload this or not. I spent a wonderful time in the bush yeaterday but was so saddened to see pollution taking it's toll at this dam near Bloemhof, South Africa. The message is not to blame the beer drinkers alone but our general attitude of dumping all waste in the dam plus the local governments spilling vast quantities of sewerage (untreated effluent) into the rivers. This dam hosts the next world championships for carp angling soon...fishing.gif

A sad scene for sure. It's been my experience that man doesn't have to be impaired to be wreckless, but it sure does help!

You can blame the beer drinkers when they throw their bottles in nature! You can blame the government also, but each person must be responsible for the environment. It's a very sad and revolting image and a strong message! Bravo!!!

That's rather sad - yes I think things were going much smoother before man came along! Anyway - The BW and selective colouring works perfectly to get the message across!! Well done and have a great week! 8;o)

Wheres the world coming to? #:oP Quite disgusting photo, one to perfectly illustrate your message. Point well made my friend. I shall no longer throw fishes around. LOL. It is sad to see pollution anywhere, bottles are easily removed peoples minds are not so easily changed.

I think this is a brilliant piece!! Pollution is, and continues to be a problem around the globe! We all need to be good stewards of our only home. Love your judicious use of color!! Brilliant!!

Truly sad to see the way man has been ruining the earth. We can see the need for intervention, but those who could help the problem are usually blind to the situation, or have too much money to care. Thanks for sharing and prayers for the future of South Africa. HUGS!!!

OMG, what a vivid reminder of mankind's corruption of the planet! How fetid! Definitely a bizarre composition. Are those two fish at right angles of each other? The black hole at the bottom -- possibly an eye socket -- is quite spooky. One great capture, Piet, despite the subject matter!!!

Carps are fun to catch but I want no part in eating them. some people are suppose to know ways of fixing them so the oily taste is not present. excellent statement on our times

I agree on the polution. Not sure the shot really creates enough impact. The Orientation is confusing and makes one think abit hard, losing the point to your image. Plus I think a straigh B&W or colour would've been more effective. And maybe a lower angle shoeing some background in DOF. Just my thoughts - I know you appreciate it :]

That's the thing about art...it doesn't have to be beautiful.Wonderfully expressed feelings with this,Piet.Pollution/dumping etc...it's all awful and a shame...and you showed all of that in this very well-executed image.Bravo on your artistic and ecological 'consciousness'.-M :^)

I find this one of your best images, Piet... (possibly the best) and I'll tell you why (if you still believe me) ;o)) Because it scores well on all (or there are no downsides on any) of the most important points on which an image should be evaluated... (attention point and the composition around it, focus point, subject value, definition, even impact...). You have made beautiful images, but with negative points (as I tried to explain). This one is not so "beautiful", but there's no negative points here, which means it's pretty much perfect. Very high score in my book!
