Description

One of our friends sister wanted to see surface lava. So we hiked to the lava fields this past Sunday Nov 5th. Air quality was poor, wind blowing in the wrong direction and the heat above/below was intense. Although we did find surface lava, we were all totally drained and exhausted. Here is Terry looking for lava. Turn around buddy, its coming out from beneath those rocks. Aloha and thank you for viewing ps...Can anyone see an animal face on the rock above the red glow?

He's standing on it! What an incredible shot. I had no idea you could walk so close to molten lava. It looks like the surface could crumble at any moment. A fantastic shot of nature.

Gorgeous shot Errol!!! First of all...the lava look sooooo freaking cool...or hot. Like a wasteland. And your friend Terry brings such scale to the entire scene...and finally..the way his clothes really pop against that dark lava. Extraordinary compo for sure. Have a great one! ALOOOHA!!!! #:o)

Gosh Errol soon you'll have to take a paid tour group up there, I'm always thinking how you can make some $$ at this, still you have almost enough for that lava photo book right???? Excellent addition to your collection!!!!!

Lookin' for "Lava" in all the wrong places...... You can still see the redness of Terry's legs. Glad you can still hike up there. Getting a bit old for this, aren't you? Great shot Errol. Take care. Aloha

It seems like a very risky thing to do, DANGEROUS! The glowing red looks very ominous.

I'd be more than a little scared to be walking on that, knowing the lava is just under a thin crust. Great, surreal, landscape. Makes me want to visit Hawaii someday.

I don't think anyone's said it yet, but yes, I see an animal face in the rock above the lava. In fact, I think I see a whole head attached to some kind of turtle-shaped body (but not necessarily a turtle). It looks like it has a really big cranial bone and big, shut eyes. But it's definitely there. Great capture! Wish I had access to hike on that stuff! I'd definitely be there. N
