Description

The hotel window on the eleventh floor would only open a crack, but it was enough to wedge the camera out sideways to capture the striking building next door. What a surprise to return to the room that night and find it all lit up. It took a few tries to hold the camera still enough to get a decent five-second exposure; Glad I didn't drop my new Canon! Taken in Kuming, the capital of Yunnan province, a couple weeks ago. Like so many cities in China, it's a hybrid of the very old and the very new, but this place pulls it off appealingly and convincingly.
