Artwork to amuse, amaze, and sometimes terrify.
BIO
I started out illustrating my own non-fiction books. When I "went digital," I realized that I could be doing much more creative things and soon started doing illustrations that stood alone.
Since then I've created fantasy and science fiction book illustrations for Byron Preiss/ibooks, Delirium Books, Seattle Books, and many magazines and small book publishers. One highpoint of my work was having an illustration selected for the cover of Renderosity's first Digital Art for the 21st Century (with my work also appearing inside, too).
In addition to the artwork I have here at Renderosity, I have more pictures "for your viewing pleasure" at DuncanLong.com

Amazing contest entry ... two thumbs up for your render. Maybe you find the time to arranged the skeletons as a pyramid :)

wonderfully realized image and dramatic flare of color ... and I can see the "art deco" influence regarding the central character. well done. those Wacom tablets are almost like "energizer bunnies" aren't they? very cool work.

Wonderful. Honorable mention is a feather in ones cap.I'd take a wacom if it was held together with barbed wire:o)

I would never have guessed this was rendered in Poser. Well done! The sorceress (or whatever she may be) looks outstanding in the stylized aspect you've created. Highly dramatic. FIVE STARS

Very striking and well done for the honourable mention. The stylised design works well. Did you realise that the colours and the position of the conjurer creates the effect of the Eye of Sauron ?

Most definitely has a decoish look to it... She's almost in silhouette. Wonderfully done Duncan and you're right about the skeltons too, perhaps in pyramidical form... Awesome work!!!!

Thanks all for the kind comments... MarkHirst: No, that did not occur to me -- but you're right on the mark in suggesting the similarity. Studying it a bit (which comes easier the farther away from its creation I get), I also noticed that if her figure is seen as a mouth, there is the vague suggestion of two ghostly white eyes and a nose against the yellow background, sort of the ghost image of a jack-o-lantern. I'd like to think that these are all signs of an amazingly creative subconscious mind, but suspect that the ability of human kind to "see things" in an inkblot is closer to what is responsible. Nevertheless, quite an interesting observation, Mark.

Yes, the Wacom tablets do go on and on like the proverbial Energizer Bunny. My tablet has outlasted two computers and now is on its third, keeping "up to speed" through three versions of Windows as well, thanks to good driver support from the manufacturer. My old Wacom tablet was one of the best investments I've ever made, both in terms of the capabilities it's added to my artwork as well as the amazing durability of the hardware itself. It's with good reason that these tablets are used by so many digital artists.
