Another very molten shot. Curious how long it would take to melt the shoes.

Doug....there were a few times I had walked over some very fresh lava rocks. By the time I realized that it was to hot, the soles of my shoes were already melted. It all depends how hot the lava surface is. I'm just lucky I didn't go up in flames...Aloha

So how to you know, what's to hot and what not? Only by the melt down of your shoes? And how do you get home without shoes?...Questions, questions I know...lol... Thanks for sharing, Errol...smile

mermaid....The threads of our shoes definitely had melted down but so far not the entire shoes or we wouldn't be here today, lol. If we are walking during the day, we would look for heat waves coming off from the lava rocks. The older lava rocks has a different silver/black color as compared to the fresh lava rocks. We also look in between the cracks for red lava. A good way to test how hot the lava below you is to spill some water from your hydration pack. It if fizzles slowly, its not to bad. But if it evaporates at contact, get out from there quickly. As for nights, the lava is very visible. Thanks for asking....... Aloha
