Description

You can tell the difference between fresh lava rock and the older one. Here Terry points at a finger of newly formed lava rock while the finger points at the old lava. Aloha and thank you for viewing

One question: what do you do for to know where you need to walk?, I know, the lava have this lighting, but you make the diferency between where you go and where you cannot? Just for curiosity... Excellent picture and I see, your friends are like you "lover of the risk" lol!!!!! Good day and great weekend my friend ;)

mermaid....nothing wrong with imagination. Did you see the mans face next to Terry's right shoe?..lol Valou....The main lava pit is located several miles up hill. Lava comes down thru lava tubes and headed towards the ocean. When you cross over the lava tube, you will definitely know it as the ground temperature is warm to hot. If we hike during the day, we would look for a strong heat wave. Forget looking for smoke/steam as it could be all over the lava rocks when it rains. Sometimes we are lucky and sometimes nothing. It is much more difficult to find surface lava during the day. I had marked 2 skylights position with my GPS but I think it has been covered since then. Finding lava at nights is much easier. Just look for the brightest red glow. We do probe the lava with our walking sticks to see if it will collapse or not. If the temperature is over whelming, we stay off. I hope I answered your question? Aloha
