Description

A circle is the reflection of eternity. It has no beginning and it has no end - and if you put several circles over each other, then you get a spiral." ~ Maynard J. Keenan

What do animals think of when they see a reflections of themselves? Do they simply think it another creature like them, do they see it as themselves or do they ponder something deeper? -----

My cats sometimes growl if they're playing with a ball or something and then they see their reflection, like they think it might be a potential thief. However, some cats ignore it completely, so I can't say. This is a wonderful photo; you do a really good job of capturing the warmth and intrigue of nature, and this seems a very candid moment. Does he even know you're there?

Beautiful photo. As for what they see, I think it depends on the animal. I have cats that sit and admire their refection... they like the looks of the cat in front of them. And I have dogs that nose the glass and worry their refection to death. I've seen some wild animals attack their image and injure themself and others that just couldn't care less. This is a lovely refective moment you've captured.

Great capture with beautiful reflection. I have no idea if animals are aware of what they see in their reflection... I have a parrot and when he looks in the mirror, he starts jumping and licking the mirror, verry funny!

May be "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest one of all?" Anyway, a fascinating shot!

Easy to say! I think that the obtuse animals think they are looking at another just like themselves. The wily ones, however know the truth! This one looks as though he is preening. He must be one of the wily ones. lol. Nice shot!

With my dog, it depends on her mood. Sometimes she growls, sometimes she ignores, sometimes she seems to be pleased at what she sees. This is a beautiful shot .. this bird seems to using it's reflection as a mirror, perhaps to make it has groomed all it's feathers

fine photo, Kort, and aye it depends on the animal... there are several animals who can see that a mirror reflects themself, they even can remove little spots attached to them via the mirror and there are others, like our parrots, who start challenging the other bird in the mirror with the whole impressing programm of spreading there feathers, going up and down and finally trying to pic at the "intruder"...lol

I have cats that will growl if they see themselfs and other cat i hade pay it no mind. I had one tomcat that love to watch mashal art shows. and I saw him fighting two cats at the same time and he did a flip like you see in the movies and beat up both cats.so you never know what they think. now for birds I do not know

Fabulous capture of the stately bird, either preening itself, or just pondering its navel. Nice blending of the sharp foreground into the blurred background. We had a budgerigar/parakeet in a cage, who thought his image in the mirror was another parakeet, so he would try feeding it by regurgitating his food up against the mirror. It never occurred to him that it was just his reflection, and the never ending result was a sloppy, sticky mirror.

Excellent sidelighting showing the feathers and textures of the bird, interesting distorted shapes in the reflections.
