Description

Shot taken on my weekend wanders. The guy fishing at the side looked like a garden pixie! He was very much in his own world, oblivious of me taking the shot. He also gives you an idea of the scale of this ancient bridge at Glaisdale. Have a magic Monday. Thank you for looking. Hugs. Diane.

Excellent crop leading one to see only the reflections representing the skies overhead. A bridge is always a loaded symbol to me on any capture.

lovely shot, very tranquil scene.... You can also see the masonry is pretty old. Any idea why its called Beggars Bridge, or is that just a nickname for it? Awesome work, well done.

Thank you all for comments. @Gora, the story of Beggars Bridge is this. Thomas Ferris was a poor young man from Egton, North Yorkshire. He was courting the daughter of a wealthy local Squire. He wanted to marry his love, Agnes Richardson. The squire would not allow this. Thomas decided to go to sea to make his fortune. The night before his leaving, he was to meet with Agnes. The river Esk was in flood, Thomas had to leave without biding his love farewell. Thomas went to sea, made his fortune. He returned and became The Mayor of Hull. He married Agnes, in 1619 he paid for the building of Beggars Bridge so no one else would ever encounter the problems he had experience the night the River Esk was in ful flood. So romantic.. isn't it :-) More hugs. Diane.
