Description

After our lava walk, we visited the Painted Church (Star of the Sea) in Kalapana. The church was moved to a safe location just before lava obliterated Kalapana and its famous black sand Kaimu Beach (gone forever). Aloha and thank you for viewing

Dear Errol, This is really beautiful and I'm so glad they were able to preserve it. I'm sure that getting it moved was a MAJOR task, but oen that was done as a labor of love!! It's sad about the beach, but "what the lava giveth, it also takes away." Living in a young land like that makes for a very dynamic time. You see geological processes in action on a daily basis!! Excellent work!!! Love, Meredith

Absolutely beautiful Church. My Father was a seafarer all of his life. We used to go to Stella Maris/star of the sea, meeting house. He would have adored to see this Church. Thank you for showing it to me. Aloha. Diane.
