Description

First off, the main image is blown up from a small video I shot over the Thanksgiving holiday down in south Georgia (USA). As such it is intended for the subject and experience, not the photo quality. My daughter Rose and I were out for a stroll in the big yard and we heard a rustling in the leaves just beyond the fence. We got quiet, listened and watched and spotted this little fellow rummaging around in the leaves. For the next half hour, we tracked him along the two acre fence line. We would get ahead of him and then sit very still and quiet and watch him wander by, then after he was further along we'd go out from the fence, past him and get in a new spot to see him come by again. At the spot this video was taken from, he was less than two feet away from us and the sun shining through his armor was just glorious to see. Rose had a grand time with her Dad watching this fascinating little creature. Good thing my Pop didn't know about him until after he was gone. These rascals dig up their gardens, so you can imagine the shooting Pop does is not with a camera. I cannot condemn such and have dispatched a few creatures myself through the years for the harm they can cause us and/or our property, but there are times too for enjoying the delight and wonder of God's creatures. This moment was better served for the education and experience with Rose. But next time?... we won't go there right now. ;-) Hope he brings a smile. :-)

Great capture. I did not know they were in Georgia. I thought they mostly lived out west. Live and learn. Thanks!

An incredible little creature, my Knight. So lovely to hear your little story about tracking him!!! Rose would have been so delighted. I would never have thought you would have these creatures in Georgia!!! I am glad Pops didn't find out about him!! And that he got to continue with his gentle wander!!! Huge hugs to you all. Diane.
