Hi All, I started out using Bryce, Poser, Photoshop and every other arty program I could get my hands on back in the early 90's but sort of dropped off doing much these past few years. I spend 40+ hours a week in front of a computer at work and somehow tinkering at home just lost it's appeal. But this past july, in the face of my 40th birthday, my need to "get creative again" got the better of me and I am back! I have resolved to make one publishable artwork per day. I did this because I know from experience that without some sort of deadline I tend to overwork pieces to the point where I won't publish them because they irritate me (and they never will be "perfect"). I don't expect that I get a masterpiece every day but I feel pretty good about what I have done these past few months. Occasionally I go back and rework an older image so I always welcome feedback, especially any suggestions for improvement.

Very cute composition :) But... I don't see any shadows from the people or christmas light string, or really anything but the Christmas tree and the cookie tray. Also, it might be a major pain to do, but you really might want to consider getting the light string to ACT like a light string - maybe you can do this with simple reflection, I personally would be tempted to put low-intensity point lights of whatever color your light is emitting, or possibly you can get the same thing out of just playing with the material of the bulbs if the model you're using is actually pieced out that way (or I guess you could just post work that in). Floor could use a bit of shine like urethane, and if you can get it to catch a bit of reflection from the light string, so much the better :) A little tiny thing, you might move or rotate the tree just a little bit, because at first glance it looks a bit like it's jumping out of the stand. Pose, Expression and Color are all A+, you are so good at that!

Dear Kiera, This is a very "Meredith" type picture!! Actually, not the picture itself, but the subject - that is, I can see ME tangled up in the lights!!! I've always believed that wrestling with Christmas lights and wrapping them about the tree is a perfect task for those of the male persuasion!!! Actually, I much prefer the management position in most things while the guys provide the manual labor!!! (Hey! Works for me!!!) Super cute Picture!!! I'm doing these in reverse order (I'm blond) so I saw the "next" one first. So to conitnue with the lighting stuff - The "style" of your pictures I don't think requires as rigid of concern for lights and shadows as a "photo" type picture. YOu are showing fun in a "cartoon" (for lack of a better word) environment so "lighting" doesn't require photorealism. And something else to consider - a lot of the "lighting" and shadows you see in images don't come from Poser but from post work. Most of my stuff is rendered without a single shadow - and I paint them in afterwords. Just one more technique you can use! Darling image and I hope she gets rescued from the "light monster!!!!" Love, Meredith

Sorry I didn't look at it sooner, I got burried in trying to figure out a cloth simulation in max... LOL, that's just too funny - and a lot like something I'm likely to end up doing - getting myself all tangled up. Come to think of it, I am all tangled up in that cloth simulation. What manuals? aaaa-chooo (sorry, allergies ;) Love the sparkly christmas lights and the window view. As for constructive suggestions, (not having read if anyone commented on the same already) I wish that the wall behind the tree was little darker, more in the shadow, and there was little more light on the christmas tree.
