Description

I got home late and then I was going to fire up my computor but the lights went out. I walk out side and saw thes fire trucks and police out in the block. I went in and got my camera and started taken photos but I know I neededmy tripod which I left at home. I did not have time to get it so i took shots by hand. It hard to do with low lighting. I rested the camera on a eleictic box and took this shot. I know it a little movement in the shot but it the best one out of 11 I deleted. thanks for looking and comments too .

there is a firefigther in the shadows shooting the water up there. The pole caught on fire and the elecitic man say it was cause by static elecitic. It happens on other poles and they do not know why yet. They looking into this odd thing in nature.

Jocko, great capture under very difficult circumstances! I suspect the the large white object in the upper left may be a power company transformer, like drifterlee mentions, and it might have gone bad and caught fire. Glad that you, your house & computer and the firemen did not get hurt, those things are dangerous!

You got the spray very good. Maybe you did not need the tripod. There is something good about the bit of blur.

Ahh, the old blown transformer fire, I've seen these ones blow up in electrical storms, very scary if you happen to be nearby ! a bit fuzzy, but otherwise a kool capture ~Cheers~ :o)

The blur, I think, serves to heighten the action. Nice work.

Looks like they are spaying water on an overheated transformer!! I suppose if you are sure the power if off that works. Especially in these days when carbon tetrachloride is forbiddden in water in even minute amounts. I remember the little brass pump extinguishers full of carbon tet and marked B or was it C that were specifially for electricl fires and almost useless on A which was like papwer and wood or even C which was I think grease and petroleum products?

Careful of the PCBs! (Polychlorinated biphenyls - cooling oil inside the transformers) The U.S. stopped producing them in 1977 because they are highly poisonous and are NOT biodegradable, but many transformers still contain them, so it's best to stay clear of them when they burn. Super shot!

Interesting men at work shot. My husband use to be a volunteer fireman and they would use foam instead of water on this situation. Wonder how that film camera is working out for you? Take care Jocko..Thanks for the free backgrounds.

Pretty good night shot considering the circumstances. You really have to think fast when these events occur. The water spray really stands out in the dark.
