Dream on about that lens, LOL! Great composition to emphasize the character of the tree against the ominous skies. Also a great specimen and I presume it is/was a leadwood? The bataleur is a real bonus and adds spice to the composition.

Dear Anton, I'm Meredith Wilson and your picture caught my eye by chance as I was heading to answer IM's. This is not only a stunning photograph but also very fine art in that you capture a very contradictory emotion in the human psyche. Think of it for a moment - there is a whole forest of living, beautiful, in their prime trees in every direction - and yet - what catches our eye is the dead shell of a tree at the end of it's life. It's not flush with youth - but it is filled with experiences. How many hawks have perched upon it's crown - how many winds have blown through it's leaves - how many homes has it provided for how many other living things? Your photograph - your art - shows us that there is not only beauty in beauty - but also beauty in destruction. Very dramatic and very moving. And - very excellent work!!! Love, Meredith PS - 1200mm??? Why think small - at a telescope get together, a friend showed up with a modified Meade 16 inch Schmidt-Cassegrain mounted to a Nikon D200 as a 4710mm lens!!! The only downside was the tripod alone weighed more than me!!!! ;-)
