In the dungeons of Castle Maerymydra, they would find some of what they sought, and a few others as well. Black Betty hadn't come to this hell pit by herself. She was far too wise for that. She had come with a band of Splinter Kingdom Drow. They were outcasts, some on the run because they still clung to the worship of the dead Spider Queen. Some because they had never worshipped Lolth and had been cast out long ago. Some simply because they refused to live under the iron fist of the Drovik military, and the occupying armies of the Chairman Mollasar. There were, as there had been for its entire existence, rumors and whispers of revolution. This time, the revolution would be against the followers of Treallar, the Drow God of War who most believed personally slew his half-sister, Lolth.

The truth was somewhere else, in something else. And Black Betty had no idea just how close she had come to the very ones who were truly responsible for her Goddess' final, absolute destruction. In fact, in the very bowels of Castle Maerymydra, a place they had all come to rescue Damien and Chris' parents, she would come face to face with one of those who had been there just before the final sword strokes fell on Mellikan Lolnivog. Nearby, they found one of Black Betty's compatriots, dead. She could be raised, despite the vile things that had been done to her, and her torments under the direction of Tarantella Belabra would drive her farther away from everything Drow.

Marru'viiralla Eilsirren had been born second daughter to a noble family in the Splinter Kingdom, long before Lolth was destroyed. She grew up in the tender mercy of Drow culture, tormented and abused by her older sister, raped by a lover of her mothers when she reached puberty, and beaten every time she looked sideways at a society she knew was broken. None could understand why she believed there had to be a better way. At length, she overcame her fear of the wilderness and ran away, venturing far into the western reaches of the Western UnderDark.

She was captured and enslaved by Kuo-Tao for a time, seeing no better treatment than with her own people, and was sold to a Sauragorn shaman, who took her farther west and upwards, to the surface in the steaming jungles of Beotharn. One night, a Stygian witch came into the camp with a half-breed servant. The witch apparently intended to barter with the Sauragorn and his lizard-folk followers, but the beast saw nothing but food. It was the last mistake he ever made. Marra was freed and spent some time wandering with the witch, and her young servant girl, a half-Drow that the witch had renamed Betty. Then she was on her own, to learn a new way of life. She ended up with a tribe of Amazoko barbarians, and learned the ways of the jungle. She spent many years fighting lizard folk, Gollite and Mallakite barbarians, and learning the truth of the world. In time, she learned of the final destruction of Lolth, and found peace at last. And then one day, the young half-Drow servant came along, looking for her old friend. She was no longer a little girl, but a dangerous warrior, a survivor, a Ranger just like Marra.
