Description
They set sail from the old country, with dreams of riches, missions for the king and promotions.
Glory was to be theirs, laurels and the trials of adventure.
Experience to be gained, boys would become men and men would become legend.
The safety of the port was left, the journey had began.
Across the unknown waters, braving the giant squids, and other sea creatures that they had heard about.
Spending 2 weeks in the doldrums before the wind picked up.
Making land for food and fresh water.
Sailed around Cape Horn, hatches battened down, almost sunk.
They found a channel that took them far up, into the land mass.
Desolate, barren, empty. Unforgiving.
Gold and silver were found and taken.
3 months were spent mining and loading the gold and silver.
Food and more fresh water was stored.
The ship turned S/E, back to the ocean.
The massive earthquake hit.
The ship was bounced around, damage was done.
Rocks and mountain sides fell into the waters, damning the channel.
In the hot desert, day and night, the waters receded leaving the ship stranded.
Dreams of fame and honor were gone as the crew walked away from the ship.
Curses were tossed at the heat, the earthquake and the luck of the draw.
The crew was never seen again, they had became legend.
Where it once was home for 82 men, it is now home and shade for lizards, birds and insects.
The ship sets there, surrounded by brush as the desert slowly claims it.
Soon it will be gone, falling into the sands, becoming one with the desert.
Maybe someone will find it, take the gold and get the glory, fame and become legend.
Maybe someone will find it and suffer the same fate as the crew, to become legend.

Glad to see you back in action Frank! Good story.

This is like somewhere near the Colorado River delta where ships and barges became landlocked. Excellent concept, artful composition and writing. This becomes real food for thought.
