Description

Again an artwork based on the style of Peter Elson. Besides hundreds of book covers, many of his illustrations appear in the 1979 book "Great Space Battles" (by Stewart Cowley and Charles Herridge). This book is a part of a collection of four large illustrated science fiction books published between 1978 and 1980. The books titles was: * Spacecraft 2000-2100 AD * Great Space Battles * SpaceWreck: Ghost Ships and Derelicts of Space * Starliners: Commercial Travel in 2200 AD The books formed a connected space-opera milieu, describing the future history of mankind's expansion into the galaxy, presented in the guise of official handbooks by the Terran Trade Authority organization from which the "historical" setting of the books takes its name. The illustrations of these books, by several authors, was seminal for me and for my "spaceship design taste". They were one of the reasons for which I have developed my career in the field of Science Fiction. This artwork, after so many years, is my tribute to these precious books. I have a couple of those books, Spacecraft 200-2100 and Starliners, and this vehicle would fit in very well in the lexicon. nicely done!

this design also reminds me of a small scoutship from the original "Traveller" role-playing game from the late 1970's

Definitely has the look of a 'Sulieman'-class 100dton ship, minus the airframe fins. I'd go so far as to gamble it was the main inspiration for this small vessel.

Him and Chriss Foss were major influences for me too. Color was the thing they had then. Brilliantly colored starships with a simple but nice shape and detailing on it too. Excellent adaptation of a classic. I remember a few of these from one of the late 70's art books I had.
