Description

I had a number of messages about how the lions remind people of their domestic cats. This is to show that they are really as playful as the cats you may be familiar with. The one flat on its side is showing submission and intention to play or rather more scientifically to engage in family bonding activities. The one staring is rather inquisitive and intrigued by viewing a part of my camera. These are not my best lion photos and I am wary of backlighting (which some people prefer) but these do illustrate the lion behavior well.

It is the same cat doing the yawn, impersonating PJ (MrsLubner)at the dentist. I apologize for my photos getting mixed up, LOL. (liar!) Thank you for all the comments and joining in the fun. Now a confession: This was the man responsible for poking fun at PJ in this upload:

Today some of the older generation in South Africa still celebrate the Day of the Covenant.

Yes, Flannelman loves to poke at me and sometimes the point of that stick is a bit pointy. Just makes me want to use my passion-aggressive nature to equal the score. LOL This is a great photo and although the big cats often exhibit similar behavior to the domestic cat, they do have a slightly different protocol in their manner. I love the way you got three different expression in this shot.

In my point of view this is an excellent shot ya done, Piet!!! They are looking so cute here, as they will invite you to lay beside them... maybe it's a tactic to get food (some tourists) without hunting... ;o) Lara

I am amazed that they only eat about twice a week. Hopefully the one staring at you is not sizing you up. LOL Lovely close-ups and POV.

LOL, those two really DO remind me of my Boris and Natasha. It's funny how cats of all sizes can have similar characteristics (not that my babies could survive five minutes on the streets or savannah. :-)

I knew the big cats played like the litle ones. It is wonderful to see this shot of them. Back-lighting can be tricky, but it looks superb to me. I love the lighting on this one. Thanks for sharing it with us. :-)

Expressions like that show the cats really have it knocked in life. Nothing to worry about, such as where the next meal is coming from, etc. Fine side lighting, even though soft frontal lighting would have been more effective. Can't be too picky when it comes to the position of the sun, I suppose. Except for the negative effect on the cats' eyes, a flash would have been helpful.

Absolutely beautiful! I just love lions...maybe it has something to do with my Leo sign, but I don't think so...I just think they are such beautiful animals and that they stand for pride, strength and bravery...thank you for sharing.
