Over dinner that night I talked incessantly to Mags, Pol and Jess about what I had read. Pol and Mags were concerned about me mentioning the name of Crom so often; They both were certain that the wrath of the god would come down on me just for speaking his name. I assured them that if the winds and thunder and not been visited upon us during the afternoon after my mroning of reading, they would not come tonight. Pol began to tell some tall tales that he had heard as a child about the Cimmarian people and their history and entertained us all evening and well into the night with these stories. I could have listened for hours, but Jess had fallen asleep with his head on the table, and Mags and Pol were both yawning. As I left to go upstairs, Pol was carrying Jess to his bed, while Mags was banking the fire and getting things ready for tomorrow morning. When I went into my room, I set the glowing gloves alight with the commands I was matering and picked up my sword. I realized now that the characters engraved on the blade were in an elaborate script that was unlike the plainer letters I was learing. Still I could recognize a couple of the letters. I got ready for bed and dimmed the lights. Just before I fell asleep, I thought that I might ask Tompkins for some paper and something to write with--telling him that I wanted to practice on my own, in my room, during the evenings. With them, I could write down the letters and words on my sword blade as I deciphered them. Deciding that was a great idea, I fell asleep anticipating more reading tomorrow.
