Description
I raced through breakfast the next morning and hurried upstairs to begin my reading. There on the table was the book just where I left it. Tompkins, with his glasses sliding down his nose as usual, was sitting at the table immersed in a pile of papers. I slipped into my usual place next to him and waited. He finally made a few marks on the paper in front of him and then put the pile to one side.
