Description

A sudden flight of fancy while teaching Mullaney the finer points of mixing Hot Chocolate, struck by the repetition of such scenes through countless generations. First you warm the pot of milk, don't scald or boil or burn. Pay attention Darlin', this is Magic that you learn! When the temerature is perfect, not too cold and not too hot. We'll add a little sugar, then Magic powder to the pot. Part of the Magic of the potion, that we're brewing there, is that most amazing summoning, wafting through the air. The mixing of this Magic brew, has passed from parent down to child, Ever since the the Magic was discovered, by Faeries, growing wild. As the potion works its' Magic, and summons just by smell, Who has learned the sacred ritual, is easy enough to tell. They begin to gather round about, just casually droppin by. They wait for the invitation, " Would you like to have a try?" The faeries gave the Magic brew, to humans long ago, And generations passed the Magic down, it must be made just so. Then there is the drinking, itself a special thing. Begun one night so long ago, within a Faerie ring. It's gently poured in special mugs, and topped with fresh whipped cream. The anticipation as it cools, that frothy liquid dream. The first sip of that Magic nectar, Makes the circle once again complete. You are now an official member of, the circle of the treat! We'll make it many times together, then I'll just talk you through, By the time we're finished Dearest, you'll know just what to do. Later when you're older, And have a child, perhaps a few, You'll pass along the Magic as I've passed it down to you. Don't forget to watch the steam, as it rises through the air, Sometimes you'll catch a faerie, sniffing Magic from the air. They watch the happy ritual, as we cook and stir and sing, About the Magic potion, given in a Faerie Ring. There's just one more step involved, after the last taste. We'll catch the last drops with our fingers, it's just too good to waste! Then here's the solemn ending, listen how it goes! Come here and hug your Nana Dear, while I kiss the cream off of your nose!

I just love hot chocolate and this brings a whole new dimension to drinking it. I shall be looking in the steam to see if I can see a fairy. Such a delightful poem, thankyou for sharing.

A very heart n' tummy-warming poem that brings back memories of my mom showing me how to make the magic brew. The faeries are the perfect ingredient to turn this into magic. Wonderful writing. Inspires me to share your verse and the experience with my granddaughter who will be here for Xmas. :o) CC

I read it first of all to My grand daughter Mullaney Rose, when I got to the last line, she wrinkled her face and said, "Yuck thats ascusting!", Then dutifully turned up her two year old face for the nose kissing! It's lots of fun, and I'm sure everyone has a favorite ritual, chocolate, baking sugar cookies or something I've not heard of but is a part of their lives that they can relate. Thanks to you all. Tell them I wrote it for all the grandparents and grandkids, and anyone who might be one someday! BJ
