Description

There's a legend that when Druids die, their souls grow into oaks I met one as a little child, and I'm here to tell you folks There was Magic in that oak tree, every branch, acorn and leaf You could soak the Magic up, just by laying underneath! In the middle of a meadow, full of flowers, birds, and deer She spreads wide her invitation, to stop and dream a while here. Climb up into her branches, as they overhang the stream. Pick a perch and stay a while, drift, and doze and dream Her arms are always open, as she welcomes you inside You can feel the Magic of her soul, in the branches where you hide She shelters all God's creatures, be they feathered, furred, or you Some stop to dream an afternoon, some spend a year or two. She listened to the secret dreams, that I whispered to her there. I might become an astronaut, I think I'll cut my hair. I sobbed in her arms for hours, as friends died in the War. Silently she soothed me, no judgements as I swore. I brought her all my children, introduced them one by one. They learned to love her Magic too, my daughters and my son. I just took my daughter's daughter there, to feel the Magic peace. She climbed and hugged and laughed in wonder, now she's napping underneath. She's another generation, who will play and plan and dream. In the arms of an Olde Oak Mother, in a field beside a stream. I hope she finds the kind of friend I found here as a child, One who keeps her secrets safe, as she dreams here for a while. When I am very old, and my time on Earth is done. I'd like to spend eternity there beneath her massive roots, To nourish her as she stretches daily toward the sun. And shelters future generations, of my family shoots.

A wonderful poem. I can just see this oak tree in the paddock [meadow] and it brings back so many of my childhood days spent up trees with a good book. I still love standing at the base of a huge tree and looking up and wondering at the stories that they could tell. You have captured the essence of the tree.

What a delightful poem, so lyrical and flowing. Big trees have a special magic that you have captured perfectly. The words and meaning embraced me and brought back childhood memories in the mightly and protective arms of these growing giants.:o) CC

Theres a song "Knotty Pine" by Gordon Lightfoot that i like very much. Your poem has at least the same expressiveness and provokes the same emotions... I hope you have a wonderful new year with many more poems to write! Ralf

Another beautiful poem. It sparks vivid visuals and dreamy imagery. I feel as though the oak(s) you speak of are the ones from my Cumberland Island trip. Thanks for sharing your gift and this vision with us. Here, this is for you: http://market.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2668454&page=14#message_2863437
