Description

Ultrafractal 4.03 Here's one I've been holding off on but thought that it might be a more powerful statement if posted at CHRISTmas time. I tried for the vibe of a refugee child - or skull - peering out from behind palmetto fronds and the splash of "blood" to sorta jar the senses. We in the USA - other than maybe New Orleans 9th Ward residents - can probably only just barely begin to imagine the hardship that some of our fellow men are going thru at this otherwise joyous time. For them, Christmas this year is merely "a veil of tears for a virgin birth", to paraphrase Greg Lake of ELP. Hope this isn't too dark for the season.... Thanks for stopping by! Rick **(Fine art giclee' prints of most of my work are available in limited edition on archival paper or canvas - e-mail: drahcir3@hotmail.com and get busy filling that empty spot on the wall! :-)

I'd say it's absolutely right for us to think wider than self at this - or any other - time. Goodwill has to be outward, and where better aimed than at the oppressed and desperate. A kindly, timely, thought Rick.

While I have tried to keep focused on the real meaning of why we celebrate Christmas, my joy has been somewhat dimmed with thoughts of those in Darfur, especially the children. There is certainly no joy for them. Thank you for a touching image to remind us to remember those in great need.

Amen to that Rick! Great work again and while art can't change the world, it can at least make it a nicer place...

A perfect sentiment for Christmas perhaps even better for New Year a time when people make resolutions. A brave and forceful image Rick - thank you.

A very strong and bold statement. A sad and touching image but one which is a reminder to all that Christmas is about giving to those less fortunate than ourselves.

Your image made me feel guilty of not doing anything .Just sitting in front of the t.v and see how people suffer not just in Darfur ,but all over the world and then say 'poor people isnt that terrible 'isnt enough ,sympathy and handouts are the last thing they need .As long as half the world dies of starvation and the other half of overeating ,and our governments fight unjust wars instead of sending enough troops to stop the massacras ,there`s something very wrong with us .

A shocking reminder to all of us. We take for granted the 'good life' and tend to forget the suffering elsewhere in our world. Excellent, Rick. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.

Man that is and extremely powerful image! At this time of being with our families safe and sound with the love and gifts we share, we do forget those who needless to say are seeing the most vile of things happening. I just hope we can remember and do are part no matter how small to make things better for them and all of us. A most Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

A good reminder that Art has a responsibility as well. We need to use it to bring voice to those who have no voice, as well as an expression of ourselves, or something to beautify our surroundings. Thank you Rick, for pointing out that fact in the midst of this very lucrative commercial season.
