Description

Last May, Marshall in Memphis (PhrankPower) and I traded emails on his Fort Morgan captures. It took a while for me to find these captures, but better late than never. This picture matches his Fort Morgan #2. You are looking at the main gate and the dry moat between the inner and outer ramparts. You can find PhrankPower's pics on page 5 of his gallery. Fort Morgan guards the eastern entrance to Mobile Bay, Alambama. It was the scene of the major action during the Battle of Mobile Bay during the Civil War. See my pic "Silent Sentinel" for the full skinny on the fight.

These stark solid impenetrable walls bear testimony to a very emotional conflict and divide during a very tragic part of your history - keep up the good memories that came from this. Well portrayed.

A fine perspective, and the fort design is impressive too. Last time I went there I was somewhat distracted by my companion. Next time, later this year, I will get more serious in my shooting! Looking forward to it! Post another!

Thanks everybody!I didn't realize that Fort Morgan would get such attention. As you know, I'm a history buff, and the picture was really just meant for my album. It is a cool place to visit if you are ever in the Mobile Bay area. There is also a French fort in Mobile, and Fort Gaines at the western entrance of Mobile Bay. You can take a car ferry across Mobile Bay from Ft. Gaines to Ft. Morgan in good weather.
