Description

One last view of Fort Morgan for the history lovers. Here's a view of the old outer works on the southwest corner. The small red brick building is actually a furnace for heating canon balls red hot! This "hot shot" was meant to set wooden warships on fire after ripping a big chunk out of them. A plug had to be inserted between the powder charge and the ball, otherwise the hot shot would set off the gun powder as it was rammed home. Even with a plug, I'll bet the gunners weren't thrilled about handling this type of load.

I always feel responsible for the technology explained in these military exhibits. Yet, it will go on without me.

Thanks everybody!@valou:I mentioned on several other postings that something seems to be lost on some of my prints as they fly through cyberspace. I always recommend that you try a full size view for a better image.
