Description

So I'm submitting this even though it is grossly unfinished....I was really enjoying this one, especially the colors, but when I saved it last my computer ran out of memory, and unlike Bryce 5.5, Bryce 6 doesn't respond very well to that. I tried saving a backup as well, but when I rebooted both copies were basically gone. The last image remained, so I've devided to submit it. Anyway, the mounds are Bryce trees, the leaves are also Bryce trees, and the rest was made with xfrog 3.5.... I have to say, I'm very disappointed with Bryce 6 because of this. Now I know I could probably increase my memory capacity, but I remember this used to happen quite a bit with Bryce 5 (running out of memory) but it never resulted in the loss of a picture. So hopefully they'll have Bryce 6.1 soon and they'll fix this bug, because as it is, I don't see any reason to continue using it.

It's a great picture as is, but I sure appreciate your disappointment. The best thing is just to save every change, however small, but it is definitely a real pain the as--er, heart! I know. It happens to me all the time too.

I used to have horrible problems with B5.5 and out of memory crashes. Once B6 was installed the problems went away.....then I installed the darn patch and the problem is back. Part of it is because I have ServicePak 1 on my computer instead of SP2 and Bryce6 does not like SP1. Here's a hint that helps with the problem: when you are done with a tree/object change it in the A (attributes) to 'show as box'. Everytime you make a change, save as a new name. Delete the older ones as you go along so they don't accumulate too many and you'll always have backups. I like your image as is...very unusual :)

Weirdly beautiful.....I've never had so many out-memory-crashes as I have now, and I've got 2 Gigs of the stuff....

Excellent vegetations and colors! It seems to me that all recent releases of affordable software packages for CG have memory allocation issues, at least Vue and Poser are no better with memory handling.

As I have no idea what might be unfinished, let me say that "as is" I really like this a lot.. the mountains in the background could be those here in SoCal.. and the blue leaves are terrific..such a sense of almost tactile feathery-ness. I'll look forward to seeing what you add, should you decide to.

Great scene - very alien, yet very familiar too. A lovely work!! Don't worry about the file being corrupted though - I have a lovely picture I made in Terragen which I forgot to save the file and all I have now is a low res image I kept. It makes the image extra special, precious in a way, because I can't change anything in it (well, I could in Photoshop I guess, but thats missing the point!) Anyway, yours is a lovely scene whether its unfinished or not!

This is a wonderful piece. The feather-like leaves are so cool and the whole just has that studied randomness that makes it look real, like it grew that way in nature. One thing I particulary like is the composition, including the formations in the right foreground and then again in the left far away. Great piece!

Wonderful scene and some great modeling. That bites having those errors. Sweet render none the less!! Thanks for dropping by my gallery and commenting!

Love the image, strange and quite wonderful! It seems everybody has a my Bryce crashed story, I found that whenever I have used a high res HDRI sky I get a save crash so now I save the scene with a blanc sky to cut my losses.

Looks really great to me. I think 6.1 is out now. Maybe it will cure some of the crash problems. Save, save, save, save--- then save some more.
