Description
Waiting for take off at Old Warden,Biggleswade,Bedfordshire.
The Hurricane being a fabric covered aircraft was easier to quickly repair compared to the Spitfire. The wider track undercarriage also made the job of landing less prone to accidents. The first use on board merchant ships was for the airframe a one way trip, having patrolled the convoy and in some cases engaged the Focke Wulf Condor, the pilot had to ditch or bale out. This particular version had an arrestor hook and in conjunction with basic decking on top of the merchant ship it could land back.
