Description

Trying to convey a sense of being in a gallery showing of large, three diminsional art, which is mounted on the wall. I've tried the camera with a straight-on shot but that seemed to come out sort of flat. Angled the camera a bit in this one but it still isn't working for me and I'm not sure why. Any and all suggestions to help me accomplish this idea would be greatly appreciated! Lighting is overhead cone lights, there is a light within the sculpture itself as well. No sunlight, made a 'box' for my gallery to keep it as real as I could.

I see where you were going. I like the rays from the internal light source, those are nice. The rest of the lighting seems to fall a bit flat. You might try lighting it from above with a spotlight on each side coming down and across the image. That way instead of a shadow straight down you would have more vibrant shadows coming at 45 degrees of each bottom edge. It might also highlight the 3d-ness of the displayed art piece. I think you have the camera in the right place, try changing the lights first and I think you will be happier with what you have. See if you can get the lighting to do something against the protection chain, it seems quite flat and one dimensional. If you can get it so that the top lights cast a gleam on the inside edge of each pole it might help it to pop. Oh and add an "art card" - museums always have those little index cards on the wall besides art pieces to tell you about the creator and stuff like that. A detail like that might help get your idea across. Obviously it will be too small to read, but that's ok. Hope that helps! :-)
