Description

This is another unfinished picture thanks to Bryce 6's wonderful tendancy to destroy files when it is supposed to be saving them. Was going to add a C-130 flying in the sky, a bunch of forested hills in the far background, more reeds in the mid-ground, and the boy carrying the girl's shoes. Ah well! The picture is a composite of a lot of memories of my time in Southern Japan from 1958 to 1960. I saw a lot of Japan from trains and it was the major way I traveled around northeastern Kyushu. I was stationed at Ashiya AFB halfway between Fukuoka and Kitakyushu. The latter is really an amalgamation of five older cities, Moji, Kokura, Tobata, Yahata and Wakamatsu. It was to the Kokura area that I usually went. At the time it was a heavy industrial area and the center of Japan's steel manufacturing. At the time, in was also contained a lot of communist political activity and was a strongly anti-American area. Servicemen were warned to not go there alone or in uniform. Through efforts of some Japanese friends, I started teaching a practical English course to a bunch of junior high school boys. I always wore civilian clothing, but I did walk those streets many a night by myself. I suspect some sort of word went out that I was okay, for I was never bothered by anybody and only received many undeserved kindnesses and a great deal of consideration from the Japanes that I met. I've always wondered how those young men turned out. They would be in their early to mid-fifties now. Hard to believe. Jeremy Some buildings by Honey; as is the boat. School boy: Hiro3 realistic (DAZ); school uniform by penguin02 (poserclub). School girl: Eroko free figure; uniform by chriscox. Electric Train and railroad was a terrific freebie, but unfortunately, I've lost the info on who made it; people in it are lo-res figures by Ed Baumgarten, but textured by me. Castle: by chriscox (Renderosity). City Buildings: by gendragon (3d commune). Bamboo: Net freebie. Reeds and Grasses: Transpond (RDNA).

Some things never change, the grandchilderen of those two portrayed in the picture still wear Sailor-Fuku and Gakuran. And the train, maybe not that particulair model, but in such a hi-tech country it is rather suprising to see how old some of the trains are, some of them already well into their 6th decade of service.

I really like this. Well posed and laid out. For some reason it reminds me of a cross between old '70s anime and "You only live twice". Then again, I'm wierd.

Very nicely done...I like the skipping girl and the somber man....on a side note, I see you're having troubles with Bryce destroying when it should be saving...it's gotten so bad that I save every tiem I do anything, and each time I save it's a new file altogether...I've noticed that if my computer tells me I'm out of virtual memory, that's when it's going to destroy my save...well, I grieve with you, my friend!
