very cool rock formation! and in the rain too!!...my sister is over there in hawaii right now and they were worried about the psunami warnings havnt heard from them so i guess all is ok!!.. a little sprinkle is good hehe...

Tunde. This lava field is just off from another hiking trail leading to a lava pit called Mauna Ulu. Most people visiting this area will miss these interesting rock formation as there are no signs pointing to this area. Thanks for asking...Aloha

A very alien-like landscape indeed. If you look at it quickly, it almost looks like a huge mountain which has been eroded. But then the tree on the left gave it away - hehe. Well captured and thank you for sharing this. Best regards!

Kort...Really don't know why for this particular rock formation. There are other places with unusual formations that are cause by lava onto a tree stump. Eventually, the tree will burn into ashes leaving the lava that surround the tree in tack. Aloha
